We’re grateful to God for the opportunities that He’s given us at Kingdom Families to progress and bring other people into the fold of our ministry. A couple weeks ago, we got to share with our supporters about Jacqueline Jones joining as our first summer 2017 intern. Today we have an equal blessing to announce the second intern that we’ll be bringing on this summer is Reya Martinez from Texas.
By God’s providence, Reya came across Kingdom Families online and inquired about our summer internships here in Moshi. She soon thereafter got in her application and references which were a blessing and encouragement to us as we read through. When we interviewed Reya over Skype, Melissa and I recognized a young leader with a heart of service and humility. We knew right away that she would be a great fit to join our team.
Reya is currently studying at Texas A&M University at College Station. Before getting started there, she had the opportunity to travel to four different countries within a year spreading God’s love and learning about God’s work in the world through the World Race. She blogged through her journey and we were touched by the experiences that she shared. One story that captured our heart from her time overseas was her time spent at an orphanage in Cambodia. She shared about that experience and how it translates to family-based care for orphans and vulnerable children.
When I found Kingdom families it felt like the most perfect combination of all the things the Lord has made me to love; Africa, orphan care, and community. I love the approach Kingdom families have on orphan care and the realness of it all. During my time in Cambodia on the race, I lived at an orphanage and for the first time in my life I understood that orphanages aren’t the best solution. I learned of the lack of love so many of these kids face and the complexity of their situations and God broke my heart for them, but in the best way. I have a desire to share the love the Lord has given me and care for the fatherless. – Reya Martinez
As Reya is looking forward to her internship with Kingdom Families, we’ve highlighted some areas that we know she’ll be able to plug into and serve. Along with Jackie, Reya will be leading children’s ministries at Kingdom Families Conferences throughout the area. She’ll also help be an assistant on data collection projects and have a major emphasis on storytelling through writing and photography. We recognize the talents God has given her and look forward to making the most of her time here.
Reya, as part of her accepted requirements, must raise the necessary funds for her internship. Together with Reya, we have set a goal of $3,500 which will cover her airfare and living expenses for July and August when she intends to be in Moshi. We would love for you, especially if you’re a friend or a family member of Reya to make a Kingdom investment in her life and the ministry here by giving towards her internship. She’s also launched a T-shirt fundraiser through Booster that’s another way to give.
As with any giving towards Kingdom Families, the donation is tax-deductible. Kingdom Families is a project of the California non-profit Global-Effect. We encourage even in this moment to make an online donation and we ask that you write in the comment section “RM-Internship” so that we know you’re donating with Reya in mind and it doesn’t go towards other programming. Click here to give online. If you prefer to send a check, you can do so by making it out to “Global-Effect” and write “KFS-RM” on the memo line. Send the Check to Global-Effect, PO Box 992856, Redding CA 96099.
We’re grateful for all that God is doing to restore orphans and vulnerable children to loving families in Tanzania. We are also grateful that Reya is joining us and ask that you would pray for her and the months ahead as she prepares for her internship.
